在谈及维尼修斯遭遇种族歧视时，卡福表示：“种族主义是一种文化的问题，这也是教育的问题，年轻人会有样学样，他们会去重复他们所听到的东西，这就是为什么教育是解决这个问题的关键。
“看到他们对维尼修斯的所作所为我很难过。现在的局面很微妙，一个来自贫民窟的年轻黑人站在了世界之巅。但即使在世界之巅，他也不得不去面对这样的问题。我们会继续与种族主义斗争到底，我们必须要团结一致。他的声音正在让世界关注这个问题，这是我们必须要去支持他的原因。”
另外，卡福还呼吁巴西在批评其他国家之前进行自我反思，他说道：“种族主义不仅存在于别的国家，也存在于我们的国家，我们必须在这里与他们斗争，也必须在其他地方与他们斗争。这是一个全球性的问题，不仅仅是某一个国家的问题。可悲的是，它出现了足球的世界里，那里不该有它的立足之地。”
